Rochester Jazz Festival

Original Illustrations, Logo Design, Visual Brand Identity, & Packaging

The Rochester Jazz Music Festival is one of the world’s leading jazz festivals presenting legendary performers, familiar favorites, rising stars and new discoveries from around the world. This annual show is rich with contemporary and classic jazz genres. As a lover of jazz, I wanted to help recreate and unify the website and brand identity.

Goal & Design Solution

The music festival has a lot of information to cover, with a diverse range of people, it is expected that the website would be filled with text and images. However, the user can have an overwhelming experience when trying to navigate the website. Additionally, because of the competing styles, the festival may come across as disorganized. That is why I attempted to create a cohesive website, and design style guide.

  • Rebrand Logo

  • Design System

  • Business Card

  • Website for Desktop & Mobile

  • T- Shirt Design

  • Lanyard

  • Posters

  • Illustrations

Taking inspiration from classic Jazz paintings and album covers, I went with a handwritten script font that has a lot of energy (Third Rail), paired with a simple serif font (Adobe Caslon) for balance and readability. The illustrations are freeform, colorful, and drawn after performers from the show. Lastly, the patterns and colors were meant to express a kind of “visual synesthesia” of the jazz sounds.
